BACKGROUND
The City requires specialized legal expertise for general advice, representation in
administrative proceedings, and other legal work in labor and employment on an as
needed basis. The Renne Public Law Group provides legal counsel for cities and other
agencies relating to employment law, including labor relations, personnel investigations,
disciplinary actions, reasonable accommodation processes/leave administration and
hostile work discrimination claims. Given Renne Public Law Group's extensive expertise
and experience, the City has previously engaged Renne Public Law Group's services
through an approved Professional Services Agreement.
DISCUSSION
As noted, the City had a preceding agreement with Renne Public Law Group LLP for an
amount not to exceed $800,000 over a four-year term, which expired earlier this year.
While the City uses the services of several legal firms for legal work such as personnel
investigations, Renne Public Law Group is the primary legal firm representing the City in
several protracted and complex labor matters. Given Renne Public Law Group's deep
understanding of the City's labor relations processes and policies, and the extent of the
work the law group has already provided to date, staffs recommendation is to continue
the services of Renne Public Law Group. This new agreement is for a not to exceed
amount of $500,00 for a three-year term which reflects the anticipated scope of work to
be completed during 2022 through 2024.
Submitted by: Reviewed by: Ap roved by:
L
Xaviera Sco i I lTin Shah Brian Dolan
Acting Director of Human Interim lDirector of Finance Interim City Manager
Resources and Labor Relations
Attachment:
1.
