APPENDIX A <br /> Green Purchasing Guidelines and SB 1383 Procurement <br /> Requirements <br /> Listed below are supplemental guidelines for Section 5, Green Purchasing Policy. <br /> 1. Source Reduction <br /> 1.1 Purchase remanufactured products such as toner cartridges,tires, furniture, <br /> equipment, and automotive parts whenever appropriate. <br /> 1.2 During the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, request that vendors eliminate <br /> packaging or use the minimum amount necessary for product protection. Vendors <br /> shall be encouraged to use recyclable packaging and/or take back packaging <br /> (pallets and other shipping materials) for reuse. A vendor's willingness to take <br /> back packaging will be used as part of the consideration in the bid process. <br /> 1.3 Specify a preference for packaging that is reusable, recyclable or compostable, <br /> when suitable uses and programs exist. <br /> 1.4 Encourage suppliers of electronic equipment, including but not limited to <br /> computers, monitors,printers, and copiers, to take back equipment for reuse or <br /> environmentally sound recycling when the City discards or replaces such <br /> equipment, whenever possible. Suppliers will be required to state their take back, <br /> reuse or recycling programs during the bidding process. <br /> 1.5 Consider contract provisions to require suppliers to take back equipment for reuse <br /> or environmentally- sound recycling at the end of the product's life cycle or when <br /> the product is replaced. Recycled Content Products <br /> 2.1 Purchase printing paper, office paper,janitorial paper that is 30%postconsumer <br /> recycled content. <br /> 2.2 Purchase products for which the United States Environmental Protection Agency <br /> (U.S. EPA) has established minimum recycled content standard guidelines <br /> (https://www.epa.gov/smm/comprehensive-procurement-guideline-cpg-program) , <br /> such as those for construction, landscaping, parks and recreation,transportation, <br /> vehicles, miscellaneous, and non-paper office products,that contain the highest <br /> post-consumer content available, but no less than the minimum recycled content <br /> standards established by the U.S. EPA Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines. <br /> Purchasing Procedures and Manual 21 <br />
