He suggested parking at the curb with the bike lane pushed towards the street. He stated <br /> he preferred the mixed-use path. <br /> Member Piekarski stated the idea was to reduce driving to the school and create a safe <br /> means to bicycle to school. <br /> Member Houston suggested the school area be the most protected. <br /> Member Henry stated there should be physically protected bike lanes. <br /> Member Stewart questioned why the project ended before Owens. Associate Traffic <br /> Engineer Nelson explained that it was part of Phase 2. Member Stewart stated the more <br /> dangerous area should be completed first to encourage children to ride to school. Traffic <br /> Engineer Nelson explained the funding restrictions. Member Piekarski and Member <br /> Houston concurred with Member Stewart. <br /> Member Piekarski asked about funding opportunities. Traffic Engineer Nelson stated the <br /> Council would be considering additional grant funding in the near future and discussed <br /> limited opportunities for Pleasanton due to limited disadvantaged areas. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS <br /> None. <br /> COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> 7. Updates from the Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> Chair Fields provided a summary of her background and involvement in the City. She <br /> provided an overview of the Parks and Recreation Commission activities including <br /> approval of the all-inclusive park and new skate board park at Mercer Sports Park, and <br /> cricket pitch and pickle ball at Muirwood Park. <br /> 8. Updates from Project/Program/Agency Representatives <br /> None. <br /> 9. Other brief reports on any meetings, conferences, and/or seminars attended <br /> by the Committee members <br /> COMMITTEE COMMENTS <br /> Member Piekarski mentioned upcoming CalBike educational sessions including the <br /> Summit in Oakland, April 6-9, 2022, and California Advocacy Success Stories on <br /> February 22, 2022. <br /> Bicycle, Pedestrian & Trails Committee Minutes January 24, 2022 <br /> Page 4 of 5 <br /><br /> Member Nelson stated the shared use plans were confusing and suggested signage or <br /> paint. He questioned the means of accessing the shared use path and suggested a <br /> physical barrier from street parking to protect the bike lane. He encouraged the best plan <br /> to get kids to school safely. <br /> Member Houston asked about the Iron Horse Trail. Associate Traffic Engineer Nelson <br /> stated the project would include up to the Iron Horse Trail. Member Houston suggested <br /> elevated paths where it crossed over the road and concurred with Member Negro <br /> regarding completion of projects. <br /> Member Maciel stated he preferred the proposed option better than the previous option. <br /> He suggested adding space to the bike lane.
