17
THE CITY OF
pLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
April 19, 2022
Operations Services
TITLE: APPROVE CONTINUATION OF LOCAL DROUGHT EMERGENCY
SUMMARY
On October 5, 2021, City Council adopted urgency Ordinance No. 2225 declaring
a Local Drought Emergency due to the critically reduced water supplies and continued
extreme dry weather for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare. Drought
conditions are still in effect as reported by the State Department of Water Resources
(DWR) on March 18, 2022, announcing that January and February were the driest on
record, causing below average snowpack, and low reservoir levels, resulting in a cut to
the State Water Project (SWP) allocation to 5 percent. DWR previously set the
allocation at 15 percent earlier this year. Therefore, conditions of the Local Drought
Emergency support the continuation of the emergency declaration.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the continuation of the Local Drought
Emergency.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There is no financial impact to continue the Local Drought Emergency.
