wouldn't answer. Instead, staff came to his defense. This may not strictly be a financial conflict, but
using his position to promote and to get preference for his own organization is certainly an abuse of
his position and power. The city should adopt a policy to prohibit this behavior and immediately
dismiss this commissioner.
I also asked about the role of the so -call Sports Council (I prefer the term Sports Mafia) in the
decision for Muirwood Park. During the November 18th P&R Commission meeting, city staff stated
that the Sports Council was approached and asked if one of the fields at either Ken Mercer Sports
Park or Bernal Community Park could be used for cricket. According to what staff said at the meeting
the answer was "No" (a total of 31 fields and not ONE can be used for cricket !?!?). Since when does
an un -elected, un -appointed shadow organization have authority over who can use public facilities?
Shades of the Chamber of Commerce! However, staff contradicted themselves on Saturday saying
this did not occur.
This is just another in a long line of sham public events or processes to empower special interests
over the concerns of residents. The sports lobby is just another special interest that has way too
much power in the city. They follow the same playbook as other special interests — get support from
the Council or Staff for their priorities (campaign contributions and votes, anyone?) and marginalize
anyone who opposes them. I guess this is a good argument for district elections. At least then we
would have one city council member on our side.
Thankyou
Matt Sullivan
Click h= to report this email as spam.
