I want to take this opportunity to express my strong opposition to this
proposal.
Such a decision would have significant negative impacts on the local economy, it would
damage the quality of life of long-standing nearby neighborhoods, and diminish the variety
and quality of consumer choices across the city.
Currently, the two shopping centers that straddle that intersection provide one of Pleasanton's
major grocery stores (Safeway). This is significant because it provides a major supply of
shopping essentials within walking distance of a large population of existing housing, thus
reducing vehicle traffic. This location is also important as the location of a Walgreens,
Amador Cleaners, and the Hallmark Store. On the other side of the intersection, there are a
variety of businesses and here is a significant point — that are patronized by customers
from across the city, not just in that immediate neighborhood. As a long-term resident of
Pleasanton, this matters to me a great deal, since I use these businesses often and I am aware
of many others who do so from a variety of neighborhoods. I refer to several restaurants, — a
very popular sandwich shop, a Japanese, Chinese, Thai, pizza shops, and The Sunshine
Saloon, popular with people like me who come to watch ballgames on their TV screens from
all over the city. The True Value Hardware Store is a required stop for those who perform Bo -
it -yourself projects of all kinds and gardeuiug and UNCLE Credit Union is an important local
business for people all a cross town. Of course, it would be foolish to disregard the sales -tax
revenue that Pleasanton currently receives from each of these businesses.
So, I want to emphasize that such a rezoning decision is a very bad idea from each of the
relevant perspectives that matter to Pleasanton residents and Pleasanton City
government. Personally, I would not look favorably on any local decision -maker — City
Council Member or City Planner — who supports such a decision.
Sincerely,
Daniel Sa one
Click h= to report this email as spam.
