DISCUSSION
Funding for the tot lot and landscape improvements for Valley Trails Park, CIP No.
18756, totaled $176,558. Improvements were funded through Fund 223 — Park
Developer Contributions. The remaining, unused balance was returned to that fund
balance during the CIP carry-over process.
Construction of the tot lot was completed by Ross Recreation Equipment, Inc. (Ross)
through a purchase order for $108,252 of which $107,009 was expended. Two change
orders were approved for the project. Work under Change Order No. 1 (totaling $7,335)
included the installation of a concrete band at the edge of the existing sidewalk to retain
the full twelve-inch depth of the playground's surfacing (engineered wood fiber). Work
under Change Order No. 2 (totaling $3,490) included replacement of an existing
cracked flag of concrete and relocation of the existing irrigation mainline outside of the
playground area. The tot lot construction costs with Ross totaled $117,834.
Under the City's on-call contract with Suarez & Munoz Construction, Inc. and Devil
Mountain Wholesale Nursery, $56,133 of funding was used to improve the landscape
and irrigation. The work included installation of shade trees from Devil Mountain
Wholesale Nursery around the tot lot, conversion of lawn areas to flowering shrubs and
groundcovers, and other landscape improvements identified as a priority during the
public outreach process and based on conversations with neighborhood
representatives. An additional $2,591 was used to install a new bench at the tot lot.
In addition to the park improvements paid for by the developer contribution funds, the
City utilized repair and renovation funds to install additional landscape and irrigation
improvements throughout the park.
The construction of the tot lot and landscape improvements at Valley Trails Park has
been completed to the satisfaction of the Director of Engineering. Staff recommends
City Council accept the Valley Trails Park improvements as complete.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
44e(1,01 hd144--
Stephen Kirkpatrick Tina Olson Brian Dolan
Director of Engineering Director of Finance Interim City Manager
Attachments:
1.
