BACKGROUND
The City of Pleasanton provides a multitude of services to the public, including public
safety, water, sewer, building, planning, and library and recreational services
opportunities.
In over the past 25 years, the City has routinely hired a consultant to survey the
community on the satisfaction with these services and facilities, to determine what
facilities and services were lacking in the community and what facilities and services
were of a high priority to the community in the future. This information is helpful to the
City Council and staff in formulating the annual operating budget, the capital
improvement program, and other long range planning efforts.
The City hired Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates (FM3) to repeat and
expand the prior community satisfaction surveys. The surveys were conducted
September 20 — October 5, 2021. Completed surveys from 996 citizens were utilized,
producing survey results with +/- 4.0% accuracy.
DISCUSSION
City staff worked with staff from FM3 to develop the survey questions. These questions
were drafted to determine public opinion regarding city services and previous questions
from the baseline surveys were retained to determine how these results compare with
those from previous community satisfaction surveys. Survey results are attached to this
report (see Attachment 1).
Survey results will be presented to the City Council on October 19, 2021. The
information can then be used by staff to modify goals or service delivery procedures, as
necessary.
The survey addresses a variety of topics including resident perceptions of the following
issues:
• Pleasanton's overall quality of life,
• Top concerns facing Pleasanton,
• Attitudes toward City government,
• Contact with City departments and facilities.
Submitted by: Approved •y:
Sean Welch Nelson Fialho
Senior Management Analyst City Manager
Attachments:
1.
