r I
11
THE CITY OF
`` ° SEIM CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON©
September 7, 2021
Operations Services
TITLE: APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF A CONSTRUCTION BACKHOE FROM
PETERSON CAT IN THE AMOUNT OF $176,748
SUMMARY
The Utilities Division within the Operations Services Department is requesting to
purchase a new construction backhoe to replace the current twenty-three-year-old 1998
Caterpillar. A backhoe is vital to Utilities for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of
the City's water, sewer, and storm systems. The current backhoe has experienced a
variety of mechanical issues over its lifespan and is scheduled for replacement as part
of the City's 20-year replacement plan. To date, unit#322 has 2,162 hours of use and a
total of$20,434.85 has been spent on maintenance.
Most construction backhoes have a useful life of 20 years and/or 5,000 hours of use.
Due to the age of this unit, this replacement will also help meet the California Air
Resource Board (CARB) diesel powered regulations.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the purchase of a construction backhoe for Operations Services and authorize
the City Manager to execute a Purchase Order with Peterson Cat in the amount of
$176,748.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
This purchase is budgeted and funded in the Water Replacement Fund (424) in FY
2021/22.
