Pleasanton is a community with a rich and long history, part of California's early settlement
in the Bay Area. Over the years, though it has grown in size and sophistication, Pleasanton remains
a community with a focus on family. All while becoming a more and more diverse population. All
cultures can thrive in Pleasanton. RGOC stands out for its commitment to families and family care,
offering a variety of family nights, recreational opportunities, religious education, social events, and
parenting groups for the benefit of parishioners and non -parishioners alike. Many of RGOC's families
are longtime Pleasantonians, and are rightfully proud of their home. For these and other reasons, the
parish's leadership has identified Pleasanton as a great location for establishing new roots for
growing their ministries — in large part because of the influx of young families who have been drawn
to both RGOC and Pleasanton because of their common values.
Diversitv. As an inclusive community with a commitment to supporting diversity, the location of
RGOC in Pleasanton would be a real asset. Greek -Americans have a long-standing presence in
Pleasanton and surroundings. With RGOC in Pleasanton, there will now be more opportunity for
Greek cultural expression through their renowned folk dance programs, annual Greek Festival, and
other programs for all residents to enjoy. Certainly Pleasanton welcomes communities of all religious
faiths, and I take heart in knowing that, with RGOC, Pleasanton will become the center for the Greek
Orthodox Church and all who wish to learn about the Orthodox faith within the Tri -Valley and San
Ramon/Danville areas.
Communitv Activitv. RGOC will be an active participant in things positive in the City of
Pleasanton. One recent example of their community outreach is their partnership with the Alameda
County Community Food Bank. RGOC plans to continue this vital service to our own Pleasanton
residents by continuing their twice monthly food pantry for those in our city dealing with food
insecurity.
Desian. RGOC bring a true architectural beauty to our community. The design incorporates
Byzantine elements drawing from antiquity, with modern, appealing, and utilitarian elements —
respecting history and tradition while addressing current needs. I agree with the City Staff's analysis
that RGOC's project will not create any adverse traffic impacts -- most activities will take place
primarily on Sundays or during non -commute times. It also seems like an appropriate location from a
zoning standpoint given the proximity to the existing Church of Christ on Dublin Canyon Road.
