16 <br /> THE CITY OF <br /> I II CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pi -F ASANTON <br /> June 15, 2021 <br /> Operations Services <br /> TITLE: APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF SIX MOTORCYCLES FOR THE <br /> POLICE DEPARTMENT FROM CALMOTO LIVERMORE IN THE <br /> AMOUNT OF $194,342.64 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The Police Department's fleet is equipped with ten Harley-Davidson motorcycles — six <br /> are actively used, two are used for special events and two for training of new officers. <br /> The useful life of these motorcycles is four years and/or 30,000 miles. Four of the ten <br /> motorcycles were scheduled to be replaced in previous years but were deferred <br /> (replacement years range from 2013-2021). To date, $72,422 has been spent on <br /> maintenance for the ten Harley-Davidson motorcycles. <br /> The Police Department is requesting to replace six of its Harley-Davidson motorcycles <br /> with BMW's. Transitioning the motorcycle fleet to BMW will result in reduced annual <br /> maintenance and fuel costs. In addition, there are operational benefits such as <br /> enhanced safety features, easier handling due to a lighter body, and quieter motors <br /> improving personnel's ability to better hear their surroundings. <br /> Staff received three quotes for the purchase of six BMW motorcycles and CalMoto <br /> Livermore submitted the lowest quote. Staff is recommending purchasing six BMW <br /> motorcycles from CalMoto Livermore. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve the purchase of six BMW motorcycles for the Police Department and authorize <br /> the City Manager to execute a Purchase Order with CalMoto Livermore in the amount of <br /> $194,342.64. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> This purchase would be funded by the Police Vehicle and Equipment Replacement <br /> Fund (511) in FY 2020/21. <br />
