Public Comments for February 10, 2021 Planning Commission Meeting
From:Steve Van Dorn
Sent: Monday, February 08, 2021 1:45 PM
To: Stefanie Ananthan
Cc: Ellen Clark; Melinda Denis
Subject: Iron Horse Real Estate, 550 Main St.Appeal of Director of Community Development's Denial of
a Zoning Certificate
Dear City of Pleasanton Planning Commissioners,
The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce would like to share our comments regarding Item 6 on the
February 10, 2021 Planning Commission meeting agenda. The Chamber strongly advocates to our
members and the business community as a whole, that all local zoning and City ordinances be adhered
to when operating a business in the City of Pleasanton. When considering Item 6 that is before the
Planning Commission on Wednesday evening, it is difficult for us to take a position on this specific issue
since we are not aware of the conversations and processes that occurred between the business,
landlord and the City prior to the business moving into 550 Main St. We also understand Iron Horse
Real Estate is operating some retail sales at the front of their office space which may meet the
requirement that is outlined in the recently approved Downtown Specific Plan (DSP).
Due to us having limited information as to the process and reasons why Iron Horse Real Estate was not
advised their use was not consistent with the DSP prior to them moving into 550 Main St.,we do not
feel it is appropriate that the Chamber take a formal position on this issue. However, if the City staff and
other stakeholders should provide evidence at your meeting that Iron Horse Real Estate knowingly did
not follow the DSP and the Planning Commissioners concur, the appeal should be denied.
Even though our small business community is suffering greatly during this pandemic and we want to do
all we can to support them, not abiding by City zoning requirements is never acceptable. We wish you
all the best in your discussions and know you will make the right decision once all the evidence is made
available to you.
Sincerely,
Steve Van Dorn, I O M
President&CEO
Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce
777 Peters Avenue
Pleasanton, CA 94566
@pleasanton.org
www.pleasanton.org
925-846-5858 ext. 204
"T Pr* PLEASANTON
,,.
