This work consists of pavement repair and crack sealing. Pavement repair involves removing 4 to 6 inches of the existing pavement section down to the roadway aggregate base material and replacing it with new asphalt concrete with the same thickness as removed. This is done when the pavement has failed in isolated areas and before the entire street surface is slurry sealed. This is the same repair as performed on the reconstructed streets and as described above but, generally, the overall condition of the streets that will be slurry sealed instead of reconstructed is better. Crack sealing involves cleaning the pavement cracks in preparation for applying a sealant and smoothing the applied sealant so that the material is flush with the existing asphalt concrete surface. The following streets are included in the second component of work and will be slurry sealed later this year under a separate project, which is currently in the bidding process.
