Attachment 1 <br /> Proclaims <br /> June 2021 <br /> LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton recognizes the importance of equality and freedom, <br /> and is dedicated to fostering acceptance of all its residents and preventing discrimination <br /> including on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity; and <br /> WHEREAS, the nation was founded upon and is guided by a set of principles, including <br /> that every person is created equal; that all have rights to their life, liberty, and pursuit of <br /> happiness; and that all shall be afforded the full recognition and protection of the law; and <br /> WHEREAS, June has become a symbolic month in which lesbians, gay men,bisexual <br /> people, transgender individuals, and those questioning their sexual and gender identities, and <br /> supporters come together in various celebrations and recognition of pride; and <br /> WHEREAS, the city of Pleasanton is strengthened by and thrives upon the rich diversity <br /> of ethnic, cultural, racial, gender, and sexual identities of its residents and workforce, all of <br /> which contribute to the vibrant character of the city; and <br /> NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED the Pleasanton City Council, does hereby <br /> proclaim June 2021 as"LGBTQ+ Pride Month" in Pleasanton and will have the Progress Pride <br /> flag flown at the City administration building at 123 Main Street in recognition of the <br /> contributions made by members of the LGBTQ+ community and to actively promote the <br /> principles of equality and liberty. <br /> DATED this 1st day of June, 2021. <br /> Karla Brown,Mayor <br /> Julie Testa,Vice Mayor Valerie Arkin,Councilmember <br /> Jack Balch,Councilmember Kathy Narum, Councilmember <br />
