Todd Nelson thanked Councilmember Pentin for his work making the City more pedestrian and bicycle- friendly. Doug Miller congratulated Mayor-elect Brown and the new Councilmembers. He praised his fellow military veteran Councilmember Pentin for his work with veterans, including the construction of the Veterans Memorial, rehabilitation of the Veterans Memorial Building and outreach to Pleasanton's military families. He asked the new City Council to address veteran's housing. Sam Caygill, League of California Cities, expressed appreciation and gratitude to Councilmember Pentin. She praised him for being a leader within the East Bay Division, encouraging others to participate. She stated her joy in hearing the good news about Mayor Thorne. She also congratulated Mayor-elect Brown and the incoming Councilmembers stating her eagerness to work with them. Herb Ritter expressed his happiness with the news about Mayor Thorne and congratulated Mayor-elect Brown and the new Councilmembers. He offered a thank you to Councilmember Pentin for his leadership and service, praising his integrity and passion for civil service. Councilmember Testa thanked Councilmember Pentin for his service to the community, especially his consistent support for bicyclists and pedestrians. Councilmember Brown recalled a friendship back to when she coached Councilmember Pentin's daughter's youth soccer team. She praised Councilmember Pentin for his strong campaigning which forced her to raise the bar. She thanked him for his advocacy for outdoor activities. Vice Mayor Narum stated her disbelief that her professional relationship with Councilmember Pentin extends 20 years. She stated he will leave a legacy to Pleasanton, including the Callippe Preserve Golf Course, Veterans Memorial, Firehouse Arts Center, and the "Pentin Paint" green bike lanes. She thanked him for his service in the United States Marine Corps and his commitment to the Pleasanton community. REMARKS BY OUTGOING COUNCILMEMBER PENTIN Councilmember Pentin stated he was humbled by the people who spoke on his behalf. He thanked the City Council and City staff for making these accomplishments happen as a team and declined credit for all which was accomplished. He stated he takes none of it for granted and added Mr. Ritter's comment about "service above self' came naturally and is what everyone should be doing. He praised Executive Assistant to the City Manager Lisa Tarnow for her amazing work making things happen behind the scenes. He thanked City Manager Nelson Fialho and his executive team for their support in running the City. He called the 400-plus employees of the City "awesome" and he would not have represented the City without their support. Councilmember Pentin thanked Mayor Thorne for his support back to their days on the Parks and Recreation Commission. He thanked his fellow Councilmembers past and present for doing fine work leading the City with a diverse team-centric mindset. He thanked Vice Mayor Narum for helping keep him focused and in check. He thanked his friends for being a sounding board, especially former campaign manager Bryan Gillette and Mr. Ritter, who he stated he would like to see on the City Council someday. He thanked the residents and businesses of Pleasanton for challenging him to be better every day. He emphasized his full support of Councilmember Brown as the next Mayor and those elected to the City Council.
