8
THE CITY OF
fL-N
i110in _,_ __ CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON
December 1, 2020
Information Technology
TITLE: APPROVE PURCHASE FROM LANAIR GROUP, LLC FOR EQUIPMENT TO
UPGRADE VIRTUAL DESKTOP INFRASTRUCTURE SYSTEM IN THE
AMOUNT OF $259,111
SUMMARY
The City employs multiple methods and technologies to facilitate end-user computing,
among these are virtualized desktops that replicate a user's desktop and access to the
information and programs needed to complete their job duties. The City's current
Virtualized Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) platform and related equipment are at their
functional end-of-life for the operating system. This purchase of Dell/EMC VXrail Hyper-
Converged equipment will allow desktop computers to continue to run Virtualized
Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to seamlessly allow teleworking while capacity restrictions
limit the number of on-site employees in City facilities.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council approve a purchase in the amount of $259,111 for
Dell/EMC VXrail hyper-converged equipment to support the use of Vitalized Desktop
Infrastructure and authorize the City Manager to execute a purchase order with Lanair
Group, LLC.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The Information Technology Department issued an Invitation for Bid on a specification
designed by Dell/EMC for a Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) solution to replace
the City's current equipment with a system that has the capacity to operate current and
future VDI needs. The funds for this purchase are from the City's CARES Act allocation.
