Sunflower Hill At the July 15, 2020 Sunflower Hill Board Meeting,the Board of Directors unanimously agreed that the studio apartment, which was reserved for use by Sunflower Hill staff, should be added to the pool of available units for rent to increase the number of available apartments for people who applied to live at Sunflower Hill at Irby Ranch. Over the course of this project, Sunflower Hill has gained a deeper understanding of affordable housing and Independent Living.When SFH @ Irby Ranch was originally conceptualized, the model was more closely aligned to supportive living in that it included having a staff person live onsite. At that time,the Board of Directors had not confirmed that the Regional Center of the East Bay would provide Supportive Living and Independent Living Services to the residents.As we now know that RCEB will be providing services for the residents, our wish is to have as many opportunities as possible for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live independently and thrive. Sunflower Hill, through its on-site Residential Programs Manager and in coordination with the on-site Services Coordinator, will provide on and off-site life-long learning, vocational and life -skills training including opportunities for connection with the greater community to our residents. Our wish is to provide an additional unit for applicants. The need is great and families are desperate; we hear heartbreaking stories every day where caregivers are aging and worried that they will not have a place for their adult child with developmental disabilities before they are no longer able to care for them.This is our gravest concern as well. We want to make sure that the maximum number of units possible are available for adults with developmental disabilities, adding the studio to the unit mix in no way changes our commitment to making this an exceptional community.
