CITYSERVE OF THE TRI VALLEY
Attachment 2
CityServe1
OF THE TRI-VALLEY
10/28/20
Becky Hopkins, Assistant to the City Manager
City of Pleasanton
P.O. Box 520
Pleasanton, CA 94566
Re: Community Development Block Grant(CDBG)-Covid-19 Emergency Response Funding
Dear Becky,
The purpose of this letter is to thank you for partnering with Cityserve of the Tri-Valley as we continue
to serve the most vulnerable during the Covid-19 pandemic.Thank you for listening to the increasing
concern for emergency rental assistance. Research shows that for every three people that enter
homelessness, only one returns to housing. When the rental request demand was increasing, I felt
strongly that if we do not focus on keeping people housed, we are going to have a huge homeless
crisis on the other side of the pandemic. You listened to the cry and provided both the appropriate
and expedient funding of 500K needed to prevent over 150 households from losing their housing.
Although this is great progress distributing over 300K thus far, the threat is far from over. With mounting
back rent and new Pleasanton residents applying daily into the foreseeable future, per your request, I
am asking you to consider using$150,000.00 of the CDBG funds that Pleasanton is being awarded to
maintain the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP).This additional service for local residents
has been much needed; but has also added a tremendous workload to our existing staff. I ask for the
funding to be used for direct rental payments, duplicate payments and also a portion for an
additional Spanish speaking intern to serve the high volume of Spanish speaking clientele and also
provide additional case management services to support the current 150 residents in the program.
CityServe of the Tri-Valley values connecting, coordinating, and caring for Tri-Valley residents at risk-of
becoming or experiencing homelessness reach stability. We have made every effort to step in the
gap by providing critical case management, outreach and volunteer services for Pleasanton
residents. Please consider this proposal as we desire to continue our intentional efforts without a
concern for a reduction in services.
Warm Regards,
7'1
Christine Beitsch-Bahmani
E _ _ CER
Christinecityservecares.org
© (925) 222-CARE Owww.cityservecares.org O PO BOX 1613
(925) 202-0116 FAX connectacityservecares.org Pleasanton, CA 94566
<RE COOED NATE CONNECT.
