EXHIBIT A
relQUINNCY
ENGIEERING
July 12,2020
Mr. Adam Nelkie, P.E.
Senior Civil Engineer
City of Pleasanton
Engineering Department
200 Old Bernal Road
P.O. Box 520
Pleasanton, CA 94566
Re: Additional Scope of Work and Fee Amendment for Hopyard and Owens Intersection
Improvements PS&E
Dear Mr. Nelkie:
I am sending you this request for an amendment to our contract to include out of scope of work for the
Hopyard and Owens Intersection Improvements project along with brief descriptions of the performed
and pending out of scope items.
While this is not a complex design project, the multiple iterations of the bike facility types and lane
widths required multiple redesigns of a significant portion of the project elements. The cost for the
additional scope items, including work already completed, as outlined in the attachment shall not
exceed $ 99,430 and will be billed on a time and materials basis pursuant to our approved Quincy
services agreement with the City of Pleasanton.
Earlier this year, we advanced some of the 95% redesign and plan updates to widen the southbound left
turn lanes to 11' per Caltrans comment and incorporated redlines provided by the City on the original
95% submittal. We were not expecting Caltrans to respond unfavorably to the modifications the City
and Quincy came up with to achieve the 11' left turn lane widths. Upon receiving unfavorable
comments on the latest Design Standard Decision Document submittal requesting that we revise the
bike facility widths, some of the work we have done to update the plans will need to be redone. In
hindsight, we should have waited to receive comments back from Caltrans on the resubmitted DSDD
before proceeding with plan updates. Quincy can withhold 40 hours of design/drafting time on that
effort already completed for a fee reduction of $5000, representing the cost of reconfiguring the lane
widths and updating the curb profiles and construction cross sections. This fee reduction has been
applied to our amendment request.
Thank you for the opportunity to work on this project and please let us know if there is anything
regarding this the additional scope items or costs you would like to discuss.
Sincerely,
Quincy Engineering, Inc.
Michele Johnson, P.E.
Project Manager
developing YOUf? vision delivering YOUR project
