8
THE CITY OF
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON
August 18, 2020
Finance
TITLE: AMEND THE FY 2020/21 BUDGET TO INCLUDE $981,153 IN CARES ACT
FUNDING AND TO INCREASE THE FY 2020/21 GENERAL FUND BUDGET
BY $243,000 TO PROCURE VIRTUAL DESKTOP INFRASTRUCTURE TO
FACILITATE TELEWORKING
SUMMARY
The State of California's FY 2020/21 budget includes allocating a portion of its $9.5
billion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to cities
with a population of 500,000 or less. The City's portion of CARES Act funding is
$981,153 that can be used to cover costs incurred to respond to COVID-19. To receive
these funds, the City must submit a list of eligible CARES Act expenses to the State by
September 1, 2020.
RECOMMENDATION
Amend the FY 2020/21 budget to include $981,153 in CARES Act funding and increase
the FY 2020/21 General Fund budget by $243,000 to procure virtual desktop
infrastructure to facilitate teleworking.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
All of the proposed CARES Act allocations represent General Fund expenses that the
City has or will incur from March 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. The $981,153
CARES Act funding was not included in the City's FY 2019/20 or FY 2020/21 General
Fund revenue budgets. Thus, these funds will off-set General Fund expenditures.
