CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />! <br />~; ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />'~ ORDINANCE NO. 640 <br />. <br /> <br />!i, AN ORDINANCE ADDING CHAPTER 10 RELATING TO THE <br /> PRESERVATION OF TREES ON PRIVATE PROPERTY TO TITLE II <br />~i OF THE ORDINANCE CODE OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />~ E CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN <br /> .TH <br /> iAs FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />iiChapter 10 entitled "Preservation of Trees on Private Property" <br /> iis hereby added to Title II of the Ordinance Code of the <br />ii <br /> <br />iiCmty of Pleasanton said chapter as added to read as follows: <br /> <br />!! Article 1 <br />:ti Purpose and Definitions <br /> <br /> · ction 2-17.01 Purpose and Intent <br />}~he City of Pleasanton lies largely in a valley substantial <br />I. <br />~ortions of which were and are covered by large oak, sycamore, <br />~}alm, locust, walnut, eucalyptus, buckeye, willow and other <br /> <br />~native or indigenous trees. During development of the City <br /> <br /> !Nany such trees were cut down until only a relatively few remain. <br /> It is now recognized that preservation of such trees enhances <br /> the natural scenic beauty, sustains the long term potential <br /> increase in property values which encourages quality development, <br /> Naintains the ecology, moderates the effect of extreme temperatures <br /> <br /> Urevents erosion of topsoil, helps create an identity and quality <br /> i~n the City which is necessary for successful business to <br /> i~ontinue, enhances the attractiveness of the City to visitors <br /> <br /> !and increases the oxygen output of the area which is needed <br /> <br /> i}o combat air pollution. For these reasons the Council finds <br /> that in order to promote the public health, safety and general <br /> !Welfare of the City of Pleasanton while at the same time <br /> ~;pecognizing individual rights to develop private property in <br /> <br /> ~:a manner which will not be prejudicial to the public interest <br /> <br /> i~t is necessary to enact regulations controlling the removal <br /> · <br /> <br /> <br />
