BACKGROUND
WCA was originally selected in May 2000 to complete the City's annual tree trimming
and removal services contract and to conduct the City's first tree inventory. The
Operations Services Department entered into a contract with WCA in June 2015 to
provide tree trimming, removal, and inventory management services for the City after
WCA successfully completed a Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
In order for WCA to accomplish city-wide tree trimming of the City's 24,500 trees, the
city is divided into eight districts. Each district has a complete tree inventory database
detailing the history of tree trimming, cost of each trimming, size of the tree, and value
of the tree. In addition to providing tree trimming services for the Parks Division, WCA
provides consultant services to the Engineering Department for the City's Heritage Tree
Program. The contract with WCA expires on July 1, 2020.
DISCUSSION
In order to continue tree trimming to complete the four to five year tree trimming cycle
throughout the entire city, an extension to the contract is required for three months,
while a competitive bidding process is performed to establish a new tree trimming and
removal services contract.
The cost to complete tree trimming and removal services for the three-month contract
extension is $105,000 and funding is allocated in the FY 2020/21 Parks Repair and
Replacement budget.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve by:
-
Kathleen Yurchak Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Operations and Director of Finance City Manager
Water Utilities
Attachments:
1.
