Narika is a Fremont based domestic violence intervention and prevention
agency offering free counseling and support services to victims of domestic violence
and abuse since 1992. Its $1,000,000 request is to secure a townhome unit in
Pleasanton to convert into a transitional house for domestic violence victims and
survivors. City staff's recommendation is to not support this project in FY 20/21. The
City would need more familiarity with the organization, their operating plans for serving
Pleasanton residents, and their track record in order to consider such a large funding
request. Similar services are already available in the Tri-Valley through the Tri-Valley
Haven's Domestic Violence Shelter and also Domestic Violence hotline, counseling and
restraining order clinics.
