Staff are recommending that all applicants that the Commission has recommended for
funding receive their full funding request and that the City Council allocate an additional
$67,367 from the General Fund to fully fund recommended applicants.
The Human Services Commission evaluated projects against the funding priorities it
adopted in September 2019 [based on the most recent Tri-Valley Human Services
Needs Assessment (2011) and Updated Strategic Plan (2018-2022)]. The 2020 HSC
priorities for funding programs are as follows:
1. Programs that prioritize the "core services" identified in the recently adopted "City of
Pleasanton Updated Human Services Needs Assessment" (disability services and
access, food and nutrition, health care and behavioral health, homelessness in the
Tri-Valley, senior services, service provider critical initiatives, workforce
development/unemployment, youth services).
2. Programs that demonstrate service coordination and collaboration, prevention,
and self-sufficiency.
3. The agency running the program has registered with Alameda County 2-1-1 and
Ptownlife.org.
On March 4, 2020 the Human Services Commission held a hearing for grant applicants
during which they heard presentations from applicants prior to their funding deliberation.
Table 3 provides a summary of the programs reviewed by the Human Services
Commission and the funding recommendations for these programs. Staffs
recommendation to fully fund applicants is also included to ensure that the increased
needs of our community are met in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each of these
non-profits are an integral in supporting those in our community who are the most
vulnerable and will ensure that medical, dental, behavioral health, counseling, job
assistance, food and shelter will be available to our residents in need.
Table 3
Human Services Grants Funding Recommendations
Requested Grant Human Services Staff
Agency Project Description Application Commission Funding Source of
Funding Amount Funding Recommendation Funds
Recommendation
Axis Community Health Ensuring appropriate and timely $13,195 $6,600 $13,195 CDBG
access to care with Triage Call
Nurse.
Axis Community Health Dental Care for Low-Income 13,000 6,500 13,000 CDBG
Residents.
CALICO Center Child abuse prevention program 11,000 7,000 11,000 Gen Fund
involving forensic interviews and
follow-up support services with
Pleasanton victims of child
abuse and their families.
