Commissioner Piergrossi was informed that funding would be used to pay for facility and
instructor fees as well as financial aid. Commissioner Shotland advised she had participated in
the program and had found it very beneficial and Commissioner Prakash questioned what
percentage of participants in the program were from Pleasanton.
Teen Esteem / 2020/21 School Assemblies and Classroom — Ari Clinton — advised that the
$7,500 funding request was being requested so they could expend the program to enable them
to reach approximately 1,000 students and focus on classroom presentations that would enable
students to be more interactive. Ms. Clinton advised they want to help students from making
unhealthy choices and assist them with challenges they face that includes bullying, academic
and performance-based pressures, technology/social media and substance abuse with a focus
on vaping.
Commissioner Prakash questioned how this program differs from the program that Hively will be
providing and was informed that it was different from the Hively program because they hope to
reach all student age groups and the program will be tailored to work with school curriculums.
Ms. Clinton provided Commissioner Piergrossi information on how follow-up information will be
collected from students.
Chairperson Jain closed the meeting for presentations at 7:25 p.m.
Chairperson Jain asked commissioners to consider all of the agency presentations and funding
requests, review the report provided that includes the Olympic Average and Staff funding
recommendations decided after completing Zoomgrants, and consider the funding allocations for
each of the agencies.
Commissioner Piergrossi requested staff confirm how the Olympic Average funding
recommendation was accomplished. Ms. Thomas provided details.
Commissioners discussed how agencies planned to use funding to help youth in Pleasanton,
making the following agency specific comments:
Partners Fore Golf, Inc. — commissioners believe this is good program that helps kids and they
liked that it provides financial assistance.
Teen Esteem — the commission felt Teen Esteem offers a program that is beneficial to youth and
they especially liked that they work with the schools and are able to reach a large number of
youth.
Go Green Initiative — commissioners felt that the work being done by this agency, especially
their water program. offers a great deal of benefit to many and the internship program is a
helpful program.
Youth Commission Minutes
March 11, 2020
Page 4
