Kina Atkin Yamaguchi, Foothill High School, spoke regarding seeing her friend's vaping and the <br /> sales tactics targeting youth through the use of flavored tobacco products. She spoke regarding the <br /> use of the products by addicted students at school sites. She spoke in support of the proposed <br /> ordinances. <br /> Sophia Thompson, Harvest Park Middle School, stated she has heard there is much use of flavored <br /> tobacco at Amador Valley High School. She provided statistics related to early use of tobacco <br /> products and spoke in support of banning flavored tobacco products. <br /> Kushnamitra Parkash thanked the City Council for the opportunity to address the City Council on <br /> this topic. She noted the rise of youth utilizing flavored tobacco products has negative health <br /> impacts and addictive factors. She spoke in support of the proposed ordinance and provided <br /> information regarding the constitutionality of alcohol laws in the South. <br /> Ingrid Zhang provided an example of her sister who is allergic to mint and was exposed to second <br /> hand flavored tobacco mint smoke. She spoke in support of a complete ban regarding flavored <br /> tobacco products similar to Dublin and Livermore. <br /> Esther Zhou, Amador Valley High School, stated that the hazards of vaping and flavored tobacco <br /> products are equally applicable to all ages and demographics. She supported the proposed <br /> ordinances and the restriction of these types of hazardous uses. <br /> Shreya Sati, Amador Valley High School, spoke regarding the sales targeting tactics deployed by <br /> the tobacco industry to lure youth into using flavored tobacco products. She provided data from <br /> surveys regarding youth use of flavored tobacco products. She spoke in support of the proposed <br /> ordinances. <br /> Christina Taft, Amador Valley High School, noted her experience with students who have become <br /> addicted to tobacco products and the negative sales tactics deployed by the tobacco industry. She <br /> provided statistics regarding the use of tobacco products by youth and the impacts on their health. <br /> She spoke in support of the proposed ordinances. <br /> Rachel (no last name given), Harvest Park Middle School, spoke regarding her experience with <br /> students vaping at her school. She spoke regarding the impacts of peer pressure and potential <br /> family reasons for youth use of flavored tobacco products. She supported the 1000-foot buffer and <br /> suggested the enforcement of youth identification prior to purchase of tobacco products. <br /> Kacie Hu, Harvest Park Middle School, stated the rumors regarding students vaping at school sites, <br /> and particularly in restrooms. She provided statistics regarding a recent survey stating youth <br /> tobacco use is an issue in Pleasanton, and cited the reasons for youth use of flavored tobacco <br /> products. She spoke in support of the proposed TRL laws and the results of a survey which showed <br /> the success of TRL enforcement actions. <br /> Ethan Han, Harvest Park Middle School, stated his experience regarding the youth use of flavored <br /> tobacco products. He noted his own responsibility to help raise awareness of this issue and <br /> encourage the community to help as well. He spoke in support of the proposed ordinances, noting <br /> the 1000-foot buffer zone. <br /> Aditya India stated that most youth do not support smoking, however, are lured in by flavored <br /> tobacco products. He cited statistics that youth purchase the products at retail stores and noted the <br /> stores regularly violate laws and regulations regarding the sale of the products to youth. He also <br /> noted the increase of the product price and eliminating discounts could have a large impact on <br /> youth use of the products.
