Emily Schuchardt spoke in support of the ban and the targeting tactics deployed by the flavored <br /> tobacco industry to lead youth to addiction. <br /> Ashwin Sriram, Thomas Hart Middle School and Youth Commission, spoke regarding the main <br /> attraction of vaping being the flavors, and noted the health impacts of vaping. He spoke in support <br /> of the proposed ordinance. <br /> Shrinidhi Pola, Hart Middle School, noted the increases in youth vaping and e-cigarette use, with <br /> names and flavors oriented toward youth. She spoke regarding the lack of health information <br /> labeling and in support of the proposed ordinance. <br /> Zofy Anguiano spoke on noting the targeting by the industry to youth and provided an example of <br /> a former volleyball colleague who became addicted. <br /> Ashawn Jain, Youth Commission Chair and ASB Vice-President at Foothill High School, noted the <br /> use of the subject products in the school restrooms which was affecting all students. He spoke in <br /> support of the proposed ordinances and noted communal support. <br /> Ajay Immadi, Youth Commission, noted the amount of evidence discovered regarding the impacts <br /> to youth regarding flavored tobacco products. He spoke in support of the proposed ordinances. <br /> Daphne Yan, Granada High School, noted her personal experience with her father's smoking <br /> addiction which impacted her growing up. She spoke of the pattern of addiction, and noted the <br /> patterns she has seen at her school and the efforts conducted by school groups to rally against <br /> flavored tobacco products targeted at youth. She spoke in support of the proposed ordinances. <br /> Aysha Cunningham, Peer Health, spoke regarding the detrimental effects of flavored tobacco <br /> products and the targeting tactics deployed by the producers. She spoke regarding the vaping and <br /> flavored tobacco use happening at schools and in support of the proposed ordinances. <br /> Kevin Tang, Hart Middle School, emphasized his support for the proposed ordinances and noted <br /> studies conducted by the National Institutes of Health and the promotion of youth-oriented flavors. <br /> He spoke regarding the need for awareness of the issue and the increase of youth abuse of the <br /> products. He also spoke regarding the permanent negative impacts on health. He spoke in support <br /> of the proposed ordinances and the restriction of all tobacco products. <br /> Tess Shotland, Youth Commission, stated many of her friends vape and provided statistics related <br /> to youth use of flavored tobacco products. Many youth are not aware of the negative impacts of <br /> these products. <br /> Christina Dai, Amador Valley High School, spoke regarding the coupons and other sales tactics <br /> geared toward youth as related to flavored tobacco products and how these may entice youth to try <br /> tobacco products. She stated the importance of increasing the price of tobacco. She requested the <br /> prohibition of coupons and other sales-oriented tactics. <br /> Irayna Lin and Maggie Mei requested a ban on flavored tobacco products and provided statistics <br /> related to underage use of flavored tobacco products. They both spoke regarding the use of flavored <br /> tobacco at school sites. They spoke in support of the proposed ordinances <br /> Connor Lim, Harvest Park Middle School, noted that students may resort to negative tactics to find <br /> money to spend on flavored tobacco products.
