I have been involved in numerous parent
education seminars and many topics surrounding youth health and mental wellbeing. I have seen first hand
from our youth how incredibly stressed they are and how they are turning to vaping/e-cigs and more to cope
with this stress.
I am very excited to see that the City of Pleasanton is taking action to address this epidemic and that you are
listening to the Youth Commission recommendations. I have read their recommendations and whole heartedly
agree with them. Like the communities surrounding us,we need strong laws on our books to limit access for
our youth and even stronger consequences for the vendors who continue to supply our youth. Please be sure
to include a 1,000 foot no sales perimeter around our schools and parks-we know from the Healthy Kids
Survey that 74% of Pleasanton youth are buying directly from physical locations (not online vendors). Most
importantly, all of the recommendations are less impactful, if we do not attach them to a tobacco retail
license and impose significant penalties for failing to comply. We need laws with equal or stronger"anti-
vaping"laws than in surrounding cities. We do not want to become the youth "go to"city for obtaining
vaping/tobacco products.Thank you for taking on this task and protecting our youth.
PLEASE take action now! Our children deserve to live in a community that advocates for them. If I can help in
anyway, please let me know how.
Kind regards,
De De Curry
Pleasanton Resident-1111Del Valle Parkway
Mom of 3 (ages 23, 21, and 16)
PTA Council VP of Student and Community Concerns
AVHS Wellness Chair/Treasurer
AVHS PBIS Parent Liaison
1
