THE CITY OF
East Pleasanton Specific Plan _ : _,.n
Public Comments pLEASANTO\
From: Lou Astbury
Sent:Tuesday, December 03, 2019 9:46 AM
To: Mayor and City Council <citycouncil@cityofpleasantonca.gov>
Subject: Don't Rush East Side Planning
Dear Mayor Thorne and Pleasanton City Council Members,
In 2015 the Pleasanton East Side Specific Plan for a massive
1300 housing project was stopped by an angry citizen
response. The main concern was water supply as Pleasanton
was under a mandatory 25% reduction in water usage. Today
California is behind in our seasonal water supplies and we are
already faced with a 10% reduction in water supply due to
contamination in a Pleasanton well. In addition, our supply is
further limited by a second well, run by our main supplier Zone
7, also closed due to contamination.
But water is only one concern. This project would be the
largest in Pleasanton history with many infrastructure impacts
(water, school over-crowding, urban sprawl, traffic, etc.). Why
is there a sudden push to develop this area of 1100 acres on
Pleasanton's east side? We should wait until the new California
mandated housing requirements (RHNA) come out so that a
more comprehensive plan for all of Pleasanton can be put in
place taking into account what the State wants for local housing
in addition to what the developer wants to build for this site
(some 1900+/- homes).
Provided to City Council for the February 18,2020, Meeting
