THE CITY OF
East Pleasanton Specific Plan N ;,,,
Public Comments 'LEASANTONC
From: Kosta Karmaniolas
Sent:Tuesday, December 03, 2019 6:22 AM
To: Mayor and City Council <citycouncil@cityofpleasantonca.gov>
Subject:Vote on EPSP Development
Good morning Pleasanton City Council members,
I'm concerned that the City Council is considering development and expansion past
El Charro Road. Over the past two decades, Pleasanton has seen tremendous
growth in terms of housing and population yet we've seen very few (if any)
infrastructure projects and no new schools. While housing built over the last decade
met California housing requirements, my understanding is the state has not
released any new housing requirements and therefore this projected growth the
City Council is considering is unnecessary.
As a citizen of Pleasanton, I am displeased with the course that Pleasanton has
taken. We have not built any new schools, nor have we attracted any new major
businesses. In the twenty years I have lived here, I have seen:
• BART extension built at Stoneridge which has increased crime in that area;
• Significant multi-family housing development which has brought more
families to our community but sadly without any new schools which has
put pressure on the existing schools;
• Closed one lane in the eastbound direction of Owens Drive for "25 parking
spaces which has tremendously increased traffic and commute times from
the Pleasanton side of the BART station;
• Unsuccessfully fought to stop Costco from building on Johnson Drive, despite
the fact that they pay their workers a living wage and provide medical and
retirement benefits - yet Walmart which does none of those things has a
operates within our city; and
• Not done anything to revitalize downtown except for the new ordinance to
allow multistory construction which will change the small town charm of
Pleasanton.
Not calling for a vote on future expansion is irresponsible. Let the citizens
decide! Particularly as a past City Council motion was APPROVED calling for the
citizens to vote on expansion. DO NOT DISREGARD THAT.
As has been my practice for several years, I no longer vote for incumbents as you
have lost my confidence. Please do the right thing and put any future expansion up
for the people of Pleasanton to decide.
Sincerely,
Konstantinos Karmaniolas
Provided to City Council for the February 18, 2020, Meeting
