contract was for that purpose, and increased the agreement by $3,500, to a total of
agreement amount to $471,500.
Catholic Community of Pleasanton Site
The newly-selected alternative site must have similar work performed to prepare
biddable construction documents to create the temporary fire station. The work includes
performing a topographic survey of the existing property, including the public street
frontage extending to the opposite side of Stoneridge Drive and Rheem Drive, as well
as 50-feet into the adjacent lots, design of all wet and dry utility connections, a grading
package including the driveway access, site lay-out plans, updated building plans, on-
site, electrical power distribution plans, site fencing and security plans, and lighting
plans. These plans will be incorporated into and bid as a component of the Fire Station
No. 3 Replacement project,.making the building contactor that is awarded the bid to
build the station responsible to prepare the site for the temporary station. This model of
incorporating the temporary station site preparation into the greater Fire Station No. 3
project, rather than setting the temporary station as a separate project, avoids potential
coordination and timing issues. The amendment with Jeff Katz Architecture to perform
the necessary work is $33,500, increasing the total professional services agreement to
$505,000. Staff recommends City Council approve this amendment.
Temporary Fire Station Site Layout
While not directly relevant to the staff recommendation to approve the second
amendment, the following information is presented so that the proposed general lay-out
of the temporary station, and ingress/egress to the site, is understood. The temporary
station will require an area approximately 80-feet by 120-feet. Since the site is larger than
this required area, the temporary station will not necessitate use of the entire site. The
exact location on the site will be selected based upon the topographical survey, with the
goal to minimize the amount of grading required, and avoid as much impact as possible
to the existing street trees in the parkways of both Stoneridge Drive and Rheem Drive.
The site will be accessed from Rheem Drive, which will allow fire equipment to utilize the
traffic signal at Rheem Drive and Stoneridge Drive to go east or west when egressing the
station in response to a call. Accessing the site from Stoneridge Drive would require either
a median cut to be installed adjacent to the driveway, or egress would require turning east
and making a U-turn at the first existing median cut, in order to go west. Accessing the
site from Rheem Drive will also be less disruptive to traffic when fire equipment returns to
the station. Since the traffic on Rheem Drive is lighter, the fire equipment will more easily
be able to stop and back into the site than would be the case if the driveway access was
on Stoneridge Drive. The perimeter of the area housing the temporary station will be
fenced and screened from public view. An electric rolling gate will control access and
provide the required security. Within the fenced area will be a "sprung structure", under
which the engine will be staged. Housing for the firefighters will be in a 24 by 60-feet
modular building, which will include three private bunk rooms, two full private bathrooms,
an open dayroom, a kitchen, and an office for report writing, etc.
Fire Station No. 3 Bidding Period
It is anticipated that the Fire Station No. 3 Replacement project, including the temporary
fire station work, will be advertised for construction bids in April 2020. To accomplish this
schedule, the work described to create the temporary station bid documents must be
Page 3 of 4
