BACKGROUND <br /> On December 4, 2018, City Council approved a professional services agreement with <br /> Jeff Katz Architecture (JKA) in the amount of$120,500 to design and assist with <br /> construction administration of the Pleasanton Library Office and Storage Area Remodel <br /> Project. Over the course of the next nine months, working with staff from Library and <br /> Recreation, Operations Services, Community Development (Building Division), and <br /> Engineering, JKA completed the design and created biddable construction documents. <br /> The project was then advertised for competitive bid, with bids opened on October 15, <br /> 2019. On November 5, 2019, City Council awarded a construction contract to low <br /> bidder, CWS Construction Group, Inc., to construct the remodel project. Construction is <br /> scheduled to begin in early 2020. <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> The City is currently recruiting to fill several vacant Engineering positions, but it has <br /> proved to be very difficult to find qualified applicants. Nevertheless, private development <br /> is bustling with the good economy, and Capital Improvement Projects continue to be <br /> prioritized, budgeted, and anticipated throughout the City. To keep up with the workload <br /> demands, Engineering has relied on consultants to provide services where appropriate. <br /> Assistance with construction management of the Library Office and Storage Space <br /> Remodel Project is one of those areas where consultant services can be utilized. <br /> This amendment adds to the original design and construction administration agreement <br /> with JKA, specifically to the construction administration component of the agreement to <br /> provide the needed construction support services.
