o Reverse osmosis (RO) treatment
• Alternatives comparisons that include:
o Determination of required facility upgrades to support
o Construction feasibility
o Residual management strategies
o Operational staffing impacts and certification needs
o Capital costs and O&M costs
o Pros and cons comparison
• Implementation plan in coordination with City to implement recommended full-
scale treatment systems.
This contract amendment increases the contract compensation amount by $197,854 for
Carollo to perform the PFAS treatment evaluation. Included in this amount is optional
service of $50,000 to perform bench testing. The purpose of bench testing is to more
accurately estimate the treatment media replacement frequency for the Granulated
Activated Carbon (GAC) adsorption and Ion Exchange (IX) resin treatment
technologies. This information provides a more detailed basis for estimating O&M and
life cycle costs and also pre-screens the effectiveness of the tested media. The need to
utilize these optional services will be confirmed during initial project workshops. The
estimated schedule for completion of the feasibility study is February of 2020. If bench
testing is selected, the schedule is estimated to be extended to June of 2020.
The City Manager authorized and signed the amendment to the agreement with Carollo
to expedite Carollo's investigation into alternative treatments at City wells, due the
importance and time sensitivity to treat PFAS.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve. .y:
k\\•\1
Kathleen Yurchak Tina Olson N-lson Fialho
Director of Operations and Director of Finance City Manager
Water Utilities
Attachments:
1.
