Commissioner Jellison questioned whether Ms. Chen felt there was anything additional that <br />the City or the Commission could have done differently to help and assist her as the Teen Poet <br />Laureate. Ms. Chen felt everything had been provided superbly and assistance was provided <br />whenever necessary. <br />3. Public Comment from the audience regarding items not listed on the agenda <br />None. <br />MATTERS BEFORE THE COMMISSION <br />4.- Review and Discuss the Library and Recreation Department Strategic Plan 2019-2024 <br />Ms. Whitney advised that with the direction and support of Management Partners, the Library <br />and- Recreation Department had spent the past year working to create.a strategic plan.that will <br />guide programs and. services for the department for the next five years. She. noted that input <br />for the strategic plan was received by City Management, Library and Recreation staff, and <br />surveys conducted with the community. <br />Commissioners were provided an overview of the Strategic Plan that included information on <br />the following sections: <br />• Mission - Start your journey here; Discover, Connect, Enjoy <br />• Vision — Inspiring a.vibrant community <br />• Values — Integrity,. Collaboration, Customer Service, Inclusiveness, Innovations <br />• Goals — a) Programs, Plans and Services, b) Community Engagement, Customer <br />Service and Communication, c) Facilities and Technology, and d) Organizational <br />Effectiveness and Talent Management. <br />Ms. Whitney noted that these sections will be the guiding principle of the document for the new <br />combined Library and Recreation Department: <br />Commissioner Nene indicated that is already seeing segments of the strategic plan in the new <br />Activities Guides. <br />Ms. Whitney commented on involvement of staff in meeting activities and goals of the plan .and <br />importance of following the goals and trying to make this a living document. <br />Commissioner Nene discussed with Ms. Whitney the recent change that removes library fines. <br />Commissioner Casey asked about plans for providing periodic strategic plan updates to <br />determine if objectives are being met. Ms. Whitney indicated that identifying achieved goals <br />could be done through results of activities_.
