BACKGROUND
Parks and Recreation Commissioners have requested additional information regarding
recreation program enrollment and had specific questions about popular programs and
feedback received from participants. Staff have gathered data to provide a
comprehensive report for the Commission.
DISCUSSION
Revenue and Registration
Our Fee Policy Guidelines stipulate how fees should be set for programming. The
guidelines state that program fees should recoup 100% of program expenses plus 30%
to help offset administration costs. We try to offer a balance of free and fee-based
programs for the community.
The chart below shows registration, revenue and waitlisted participants for our three
registration periods this year. While most programs are offered on a recurring basis,
some programs, instructors, capacities and availabilities fluctuate, hence variations in
registration and revenue. The chart also provides a comparison to last year.
Season
Registered
Participants
Revenue
Waitlisted
Participants
Fall 18/Winter 2019
7,812
$934,023
567
Spring 2019
5,251
$503,640
315
Summer 2019
10,145
$1,515,449
1,356
424
30
Summer Day Cams
604
Fall 17/Winter 2018
7,800
$878,478
1,118
Spring 2018
6,274
$707,019
634
Summer 2018
10,788
$1,549,392
1,332
Waitlist
Summer is our busiest session. While we utilize every available and programmable
space (including up to 10 classroom spaces at an assigned Pleasanton Unified School
District site), we still have many participants that we cannot accommodate in our
programs. This number is reflected in the 1,356 waitlisted participants. The chart below
shows enrollment and waitlist totals for some of our most popular summer programs.
Program/CampProgram/Camp
Total Enrollment
Waitlist
Aquatics
2,213
656
RADD
317
79
Special Interest
401
21
Art Cams
390
84
Engineering and Tech
424
30
Summer Day Cams
604
29
Teen Cams
242
13
Gingerbread Summer Cams
601
169
Ridge Runners
721
106
Drama Cams
251
50
