Table 3 —EBCE and PG&E Rate Comparisons for a Typical Small Business <br />Customer <br />According to EBCE staff in July 2019, commercial and residential customers on EBCE's <br />Bright Choice plan had collectively saved approximately $6.5 million since EBCE <br />service began in June 2018. This is because Bright Choice is offered ata 1.5% price <br />reduction compared to PG&E. <br />Staff examined the City of Pleasanton's estimated 2017 residential electricity load of <br />182,355,700 kWh and plugged in EBCE and PG&E's September 2018 rates for a quick <br />comparison. If all Pleasanton residents were switched to EBCE's Bright Choice plan, <br />combined they would save approximately $293,600/year. Assuming approximately <br />27,818 households in Pleasanton would mean a saving of approximately $11 per year <br />per household. <br />The City of Piedmont opted into EBCE's highest -tiered Renewable 100 for its electricity <br />customers, while giving them an option to either opt down or opt out of EBCE <br />completely. As explained above, Renewable 100 provides carbon -free electricity <br />derived entirely from renewable sources, similar to PG&E's SolarChoice. In an attempt <br />to simulate a situation similar to that of Piedmont's, staff compared the financial <br />implications of the two programs if all Pleasanton residents were to sign up for the <br />greenest service. The PG&E option would cost approximately $47.7M annually, based <br />on the 2017 load, whereas EBCE's Renewable 100 would cost around $45.9M. That is <br />approximately $1.8M of savings to Pleasanton residents. <br />Existing PG&E customers that are a part of the California Alternate Rates for Energy <br />(CARE) program, Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) program, and medical <br />baseline program can easily transition to EBCE. CARE and FERA are programs that <br />provide energy bill discounts to low-income households and these customers can <br />automatically have their discounts transferred when they begin their EBCE service.
