MOTION: It was m/s by Pentin/Brown to approve the amendments to employment contracts with City
Attorney Daniel G. Sodergren and City Manager Nelson Fialho. Motion passed by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Narum, Pentin, Mayor Thorne
Noes: None
Councilmember Testa suggested that in the future, employment contracts should be on the regular
agenda instead of on the Consent Calendar. She also recommended that reviews are completed
annually. In response to Councilmember Testa's inquiry, Director of Human Resources Gill clarified that
Transparent California collects any information paid in a tax year and lumps it together in the annual
salary and is not an accurate description of the actual annual salary.
MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL
Councilmember Pentin requested to place on a future agenda an item to ban electronic cigarettes in the
City of Pleasanton. City Manager Nelson Fialho informed the council that the Youth Commission is
working on bringing this item to council so Councilmember Pentin withdrew the request.
COUNCIL REPORTS
Councilmember Pentin advised that as a board member of StopWaste he recently received a
demonstration of the new recycle app that will be available by year-end. The app will allow a resident to
determine if an item can be recycled.
Mayor Thorne reported attended at the US Congress of Mayors and noted a tremendous amount of
interest in the homeless problem.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:03 p.m. The Council extended a
tribute to our nation's men and women serving in the military. We wish to honor the memories of those
who have died in past wars in defense of our country, including those who have died in the current
conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Diaz
City Clerk
City Council Minutes Page 11 of 11 August 20, 2019
