was going to be more important for Commissioners to comment on there being a need for more <br />rooms. <br />Chairperson Hertle asked Commissioners to be prepared to come to the next meeting with <br />ideas for conducting an outreach program and what can be accomplished about messaging <br />library information. <br />5. Review and Discuss the Library and Recreation Department Strategic Plan 2019- <br />2024 <br />Ms. Murphy advised that for the past year the Library and Recreation Department, with <br />direction and support of Management Partners, has been working on creating a strategic plan <br />that will guide programs and services for the next five years. She noted that in 2017 the <br />Pleasanton Public Library adopted a strategic plan that has served as the foundation for <br />combining this Library and Recreation Strategic Plan. <br />Ms. Murphy reviewed the following segments of the strategic plan with Commissioners: <br />• Mission —Start your journey here; Discover, Connect, Enjoy <br />• Vision — Inspiring a vibrant community <br />• Values — Integrity, Collaboration, Customer Service, Inclusiveness, Innovations <br />• Goals — a) Programs, Plans and Services, b) Community Engagement, Customer <br />Service and Communication, c) Facilities and Technology, and d) Organizational <br />Effectiveness and Talent Management. <br />Commissioner Grewel commented on how great it is to receive important texting notifications <br />and Ms. Murphy noted that additional technology items will be added soon. <br />Chairperson Hertle asked about the possibility of renewing library cards online and Ms. <br />Bushong advised staff would check if this is possible. <br />Commissioner Damaser had questions about the Civic Arts Commission and Ms. Hertle <br />advised that plans were in the working for a joint meeting of the Library and Civic Arts <br />Commissions. <br />Chairperson Hertle questioned what staff hoped to accomplish in the next year now that the <br />strategic plan had been completed. Ms. Murphy indicated that the plan is to get fully staffed <br />and determine what next steps the department can take, for example pop-up programming. <br />Chairperson Hertle requested that the Commission be advised what they can do to help and <br />was sure Commissioners would be happy to assist with pop-up events.
