Box 520
Pleasanton, CA 94566
RE: West Las Positas Bikeway Feasibility Study—Add-on 1
Dear Mr. Nelson,
Toole Design is pleased to submit this scope and fee letter to provide additional services as part of the West Las
Positas Bikeway Feasibility Study. Our understanding is that the City would like to explore seven total alternative
design concepts (up from two original concepts). Three of the concepts will be variations of the same design but
show how to accommodate potential treatments in low-cost and high-cost alternatives.Additionally, the public
engagement task will be slightly modified to include a new approach to present the seven alternatives. Once the
preferred design alternative is selected and confirmed by City staff, Toole Design and Mark Thomas will create
the 35%design for the corridor. Our scope of work and fee are outlined in this letter.
Existing Tasks to be Augmented
Task 4. Public Engagement
Toole Design will augment our existing Task 4 deliverables by creating eight (8) poster boards to cover the project
overview and each alternative. Posters will include an example plan view segment and a typical cross section. If
desired, we will update the online survey to include a new question regarding the seven alternatives.
Task 4 Deliverables
• Eight(8) posters for public meetings
Task 5. Development of Alternatives
Toole Design will create seven individual initial concept designs of the entire West Las Positas corridor. Two
variations of the concept designs were created as part of the initial contract. The concept designs will be
developed as individual 11"x17" plan sets for ease of review. The details of each concept design will be approved
by City staff in a matrix prior to start of creating the new concept designs. The matrix will list key design notes,
address changes to major intersections, and identify how the bikeways will vary on the north/south sides.
Concepts Include:
1. Alternative 1.A—One-way Separated Bikeways (Low-cost)
2. Alternative 1.B—One-way Separated Bikeways (High-cost)
3. Alternative 2.A—Two-way Separated Bikeway (Low-cost)
4. Alternative 2.B—Two-way Separated Bikeway(High-cost)
5. Alternative 3.A— Hybrid Concept with One-way and Two-way Separated Bikeways (Low-cost)
6. Alternative 3.B—Hybrid Concept with One-way and Two-way Separated Bikeways (High-cost)
