Review the Conceptual Plan, Survey Results, and Estimated Costs for <br />Centennial Park Bocce Ball Court Renovation and,Pe ide a Recommendation. <br />Mr. Gruber advised that the Centennial Park bocceball courts are scheduled for renovation <br />to address a number of issues that have impacted.,playing on'the courts. He provided some <br />background information on installation of the courts%in 1992 wit"q oyster shell and clay soil <br />blend surface, noting that in recent years and after a number of repairs the courts have <br />fallen into disrepair. <br />Commissioners were informed that in,.2018 City staff,conducted an evaluation of the courts <br />and the drainage system and deter mined,.that both needed to be removed and replaced. <br />Some discussion also took place regarding°th_e possibilityof additional courts either at <br />Centennial Park or elsewhere. <br />Several options for renovation°or.expans`i;bn,,.sof the�bocce.facilities were considered which <br />included meeting with,the�City's:Bocce group;,a,gr�ou�p who,play regularly on the courts in <br />Centennial Park. Staff'also met with the Maintenance Services Supervisor for the bocce <br />facility at Sycamore Valley Park inDanville to`��learn about their facility and maintenance - <br />practices. After input was obtained.from.the Bocce group and Danville's Maintenance <br />Services Supervisor and,improvement costs'were explored, a determination was made that it <br />would be best to improve the existinag Centennial Park bocce courts before considering <br />adding more'courts at this park or any .other location. <br />Mr. Gruber advised.,that staff rnet:with the/Bocce group in November 2018 and discussed <br />with them requirements for putting, together a court renovation project, new surfacing, new <br />drainage, ADA improvements, permanent shade structures, additional seating, and <br />improving the lighting <br />Following the November meeting, design work took place and an initial design was <br />presented to the Bocce group for their consideration on January 23, 2019. This included <br />results from a recent survey, preferring Boccemon as an appropriate surface, -relocating the <br />accessible court gate more to the north, adding electrical outlets at the base of some shade <br />structures, adding handrails for ease of access, and using a contractor who has experience <br />working with bocce courts. Mr. Gruber noted that the Bocce group re=expressed the need <br />for restrooms that were not part of the court renovations but should be considered. He also <br />added that the group recommended a Boccemon representative be. present during surface <br />installation to ensure the work is done correctly. <br />Parks and Recreation.
