the Farmers Market would also be a good -way to promote events at the Firehouse Arts Center. <br />Ms. Sauzade agreed this would be good. <br />Commissioners discussed other ways of marketing activities and events at the Firehouse Arts <br />Center and restrictions with the City pertaining to the placement of signs. It was suggested <br />that.Ms. Sauzade look into what steps need to be taken to receive approval from the City to be <br />able to place appropriate signs, <br />Commissioner Wheeler asked about Teen Programs being open to teens from the Tri -Valley. <br />COMMUNICATIONS <br />None. <br />COMMISSION REPORTS <br />6. Committee Meetings <br />a. Public Art Selection Sub -Committee — no report. <br />b. Special Event Sub -Committee — Commissioner Jellison advised that the Sub - <br />Committee had divided into separate committees for the Ignite event.. <br />Ms. Whitney commented on attendance at a Makers Faire and obtained some good <br />ideas for taking the event to a different level. Staff is now working on reaching out to <br />vendors for the event. <br />COMMISSION COMMENTS <br />Chairperson Pellegrino asked about getting more applicants for paint box painting projects. <br />She suggested putting in place a committee that could brainstorm other ways of making.the <br />utilities. attractive. Ms. Whitney advised that staff will be looking at what other cities are doing <br />so they can compare and be competitive in what artists are being paid. <br />Commissioner Nene commented on other cities using a wrap method for utility boxes that is <br />cheaper and attractive. Ms. Whitney indicated that staff would like a sub -committee of three to <br />be able to look at this and other options as suggested by Chairperson Pellegrino. Chairperson <br />Pellegrino agreed.this would be a good time to do this. Commissioner Song commented on a <br />utility box in Hayward that has been tiled. <br />Commissioner Wheeler suggested not asking for other options for the utility boxes could be a <br />reason that artists have not been applying. <br />Commissioner Nene suggested changes be made to make things easier to access on the <br />City's website. <br />STAFF COMMENTS <br />Ms. Whitney discussed: <br />Civic Arts Commission Minutes <br />June 3, 2019 <br />Page 4 <br />
