Meeting Summary, Mission Hills Big Slide Renovation
December 15, 2018
Page 3
Christy Murphey, 12/14/2018
I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the meeting tomorrow, but I just wanted to say how much my children
enjoy the slide at Mission Hills Park and I hope the city will find a way to renovate it so that it will remain
a permanent fixture at Mission Hills. My four and six year olds saw a picture that had one side of the
stairs as a rock climbing wall. If this is one of the potential ideas, that certainly got their vote!
I also want to say how much I appreciate you reaching out to the community for input. There have been
several play structures in Pleasanton that were once loved by my kids and their friends, but the new
equipment that has been installed in the last couple years, makes it so we don't even go to those parks
anymore. I love that you are getting the residents involved.
After City response...
Thanks for including pictures of the options being considered. The rock climbing option looks awesome!
I know my kids would really enjoy that addition.
Also, thanks for clarifying about the other playgrounds. I do remember seeing a notification when the city
changed Creekside. It used to be an absolute favorite of mine and members of the Pleasanton Mother's
Club. At the time I wasn't familiar with the type of equipment going in, so I didn't feel I should
comment. It seems like that type of equipment is going up in more of the parks. The more traditional
structures at Orloff, Del Prado and the end of the Sports Park are really some of the favorites amongst
parents in town. I will look for notices in the future, but that's just my two cents about the type of
equipment parents and kids enjoy the most.
Peter Miller, 12/14/2018
the recent article within the Pleasanton Weekly is clearly not creating a communication within Pleasanton
that a citizen can respond too. Maintenance today vs maintenance 5 years ago...what does that mean.
Were local neighborhood residents complaining about slide? The slide represents what is good in
Pleasanton...so be clear what is behind asking for help.
I am out of town and could not inspect or drop by slide this week...Please be more informative to
residents.
After City response...
thank you for feedback. Operational Standard...coming from a precision machining/sheetmetal
background tends to change through time. Thank You for clarifying. That particular wording was in the
PW newspaper. In either case, the slide, 30 years ago, represented a functional piece, of art, that helped
people navigate to other areas of town to bring age groups together. Anyhow, will take a look when back
and comment then.
As a landscape architect, what might be done to allow the old water slide mound be groomed, use snow
making equipment which provides a little fun...nothing big... but something that suggests good
community...note...there are certainly other ideas...but...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
and perhaps...a retrofit is possible...depending on structurual integrity of slide...anyhow...have great
weekend
