There are.two reasons for a proposed rate increase:
4) Effective January 1, 2019 our partner in tri -valley transportation, LAVTA
increased their rates from $3.50 to $3.75, making their fees $.75 higher than
PPS.. Rate coordination helps both programs to maintain marketability_ , while
recovering a portion of fees.
2) Cost of. service continues to increase fuel costs and staff salaries are two of the
larger program costs. While this'fifty-cent increase will generate modest
revenues, this increase will help offset expenses and align PPS fees closer to
LAVTA fees. As the table shows, historically PPS rate increases have gone up in
$.50 increments.
Starting January 1, 2021 LAVTA is scheduled to increase.rates from $3.75 to $4. Af that
point in time PPS staff will consider increasing rate from $3.50 to $4, in order to
continue to be aligned with area paratransit rates.
The -City of Pleasanton continues to provide fee assistance for the PPS program. The
program enables qualified riders to apply for a 75% discount.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION
Any action determined by the commission.
Submitted by:
Jay Ingram
Recreation Manager
Page 3 6f.3
