The <br /> preparatory work consists of crack sealing and/or pavement repair as necessary. Crack <br /> sealing involves cleaning the pavement cracks in preparation for applying a joint sealant <br /> and smoothing the applied sealant so that the material is flush with the existing asphalt <br /> concrete surface. Pavement repair involves removing 4 to 6 inches of the existing <br /> pavement section down to the roadway aggregate base material and replacing it with <br /> new asphalt concrete with the same thickness that was removed.
