BACKGROUND
The Operations Services Department entered into contract with Terra Landscape in
November 2015 to perform weed abatement services for the City. Terra Landscape is
currently managing 108 weed abatement locations throughout the city that require
string trimming, mowing, and pesticide application to control and suppress weed growth.
Such locations include: roadsides, drainage ditches, curbs and sidewalks, industrial
sites, bioswales, and open space parcels. The work is performed to maintain sensitive
site and fire suppression compliance, reduce weed growth to acceptable thresholds,
and maintain quality standards. An additional forty-one sites have been identified that
require weed abatement services (Attachment 1). Most locations are managed by the
Streets Maintenance Division of Operations Services. In order to maintain baseline
service standards and pest threshold limits, an amendment to the contract is required to
complete weed abatement services for the remaining fiscal year and to continue weed
abatement services for FY 2019/20.
The cost to complete the additional weed abatement services is $50,000 and funding for
the contract with Terra Landscape is funded in part by the Parks Maintenance, Utilities
Maintenance and Streets Maintenance operational budgets under contract services.
Funding for weed abatement services in FY2019/20 is included in the four
aforementioned Operations Services Division budgets.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
.
Kathleen Yurchak Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Operations and Director of Finance City Manager
Water Utilities
Attachments:
1.
