THE CITY OF 3
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL£ASANTON
June 4, 2019
City Manager
TITLE: AUTHORIZATION TO SIGN THE SECOND AMENDMENT TO
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FOR THE OPERATIONS AND
MAINTENANCE OF THE EAST COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER EXTENDING
THE AGREEMENT TWO YEARS TO JUNE 30, 2021
SUMMARY
The City of Pleasanton currently contracts with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office for
the maintenance and operation of the East County Animal Shelter. The Shelter is jointly
owned by the cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin and Alameda County and provides
a range of animal services including boarding, licensing, medical services, adoption,
and euthanasia. The attached Amendment will extend the current Memorandum of
Understanding with Alameda County Sheriff's Office for two years from July 1, 2019
ending June 30, 2021.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing signing of the Second
Amendment to Memorandum of Understanding for the operations and maintenance of
the East County Animal Shelter located at 4595 Gleason Avenue in the City of Dublin
for the term of July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2021.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
This Second Amendment to Memorandum of Understanding is for a two year period
from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2021. The estimated cost to the City of Pleasanton for
their portion of the operating costs of the shelter for FY 2019-20 is approximately
$205,000. The proposed Police Department General Fund budget contains sufficient
funds to cover these annual costs.
