Venture Capital <br />in the Tri -Valley <br />The venture investment environment in the <br />Tri -Valley is the strongest it has ever been. <br />With over 270 venture -backed companies and <br />$1.8 billion in venture capital invested over the <br />Last five years, there is tangible transformation <br />of ideas and new technology into valuable <br />products and services. Since 2o16, more <br />than 220 investment groups have invested a <br />combined $1.4 billion into Tri -Valley companies. <br />In 2o18, Tri -Valley companies raised a record <br />$589 million, a 30% increase from 2017 and <br />nearly a 70% increase from 2o16. The growth in <br />2o18 was largely due to a spike in early-stage <br />investments Early-stage companies raised $250 <br />million in 2o18, more than double the amount <br />raised in 2017, Median deal size has grown in <br />the Tri -Valley over the last five years, increasing <br />from $2,1 million in 2013 to $6.9 million in 2o18, <br />Venture deals in the Tri -Valley are <br />consistently distributed across earliest <br />stages of funding and follow-on rounds, <br />indicating that companies starting here <br />are successfully growing, staying here and <br />receiving increasing levels of investments. <br />Recently, investment capital has been heavily <br />centered around life science and technology <br />companies.
