Micro-surfacing is an ideal surface treatment for streets that have a high traffic volume, <br /> such as Foothill Road and Sunol Boulevard, as it can be re-opened to traffic sooner. <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> Bids <br /> Sealed bids for this slurry sealing project were opened on April 10, 2019. There were a <br /> total of five bids received, ranging from the low bid amount of $771,829 from American <br /> Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Company, Inc. to $1,086,962. The low bid is <br /> approximately 5.55 percent lower than the engineer's estimate of $817,196 (see <br /> Attachment 1). <br /> Past work performed by American Asphalt was verified to be satisfactory. Therefore, <br /> staff recommends award of the construction contract to American Asphalt Repair & <br /> Resurfacing Company, Inc. of Hayward, California. <br /> Budget <br /> The project was authorized under the FY 18/19 CIP budget for design and construction <br /> with an approved budget of $915,000 in gas tax funding. A task authorization will be <br /> issued utilizing an existing on-call contract for material testing and inspection. <br /> Schedule <br /> The start of construction will begin in August after completion of preparatory base repair <br /> and crack sealing work that is part of the upcoming Annual Street Pavement <br /> Resurfacing CIP.
