Pleasanton Century House Assessment Report
March 30, 2019
Page 7
A. Make minimal improvements to. the facility to meet accessibility and other code
requirements and repair structural deficiencies. With this scenario the building
could potentially be opened up as a point of historical significance and operated as
a "museum" that the public could enter and view the spaces and learn about the
history of the building. Occupancy would be limited to small groups and the second
floor would remain off limits
B. Make significant modifications to the building to provide for complete accessibility to
all spaces and levels of the building. Upgrade systems and building construction for.
assembly type occupancy and renovate and expand the rooms and spaces as
needed to support the programs and uses desired by the City. The proposed
modifications in this option could be limited to the first floor as noted.
C. Make additional modifications to the building beyond those noted in option B, to
include the removal of interior walls on the lower level to create an open Multi -
Purpose space, installation of a new elevator and stair to access the second floor
(noted as vertical circulation) and modifications on the second level -to create
multiple individual offices
D. Determine that the cost of improving the existing facility is greater than removing the
existing building and constructing a new, more efficient structure on the same site.
It should be noted that while no cost study was done, it feasible to relocate the building
to another site in lieu of demolishing it per option D above. However, if the structure is
relocated, the costs noted in Option A or B would still be applicable if the building were to
be made habitable. While this alternative is more expensive due to relocating and
repairing the existing while also constructing a new facility, this would maintain an historic
resource, while allowing for the construction of afar more efficient new facility on the
existing site.
appreciate the opportunity to present this report.
