THE CITY OF
PLEASANTON.
LIBRARY COMMISSION
AGENDA REPORT
April 4, 2019
Item 4
TITLE: REVIEW AND DISCUSS LIBRARY AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
INCLUSION SERVICES PROGRAM EVALUATION AND ENHANCEMENTS
SUMMARY
In July of 2016, the City began a process to improve inclusion services and accessibility
in Library and Recreation programs. Inclusion is one of the Library and Recreation
Department values and ensuring that every member of our community has an
opportunity to enjoy the programs and facilities offered in Pleasanton remains a
department priority.
The City contracted with an accessibility consultant, the WT Group, to evaluate current
policies, procedures and processes. This resulted in an eight -step inclusion process and
a series of smart practice recommendations. As part of this process, staff formed an ad-
hoc inclusion committee with representatives from a cross-section of Library and
Recreation Department divisions and a representative from the City Attorney's office to
discuss and implement the eight -step process, the smart practice recommendations and
plan for the future.
RECOMMENDATION
Review and discuss the Library and Recreation Department's progress on inclusion
services.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
None
